These are just a few of the signs of seasonal allergies\u2014also known as hay fever.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">1<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> And get ready: It looks like we may have a real doozy of an allergy season this year.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">2<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> Milder winter temperatures in places can cause plants to pollinate early. And a rainier spring leads to quick plant growth, as well as an increase in mold.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> 1 \u00a0<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Allergic reactions mostly occur when your body responds to a \u201cfalse alarm.\u201d And, as you well know, there isn\u2019t a cure for seasonal allergies. But there\u2019s no reason to let this time of year take all the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>spring<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> out of your step! Arm yourself with information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MedGrovBan1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"203\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MedGrovBan1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MedGrovBan1-300x95.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MedGrovBan1-570x181.jpg 570w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MedGrovBan1-150x48.jpg 150w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MedGrovBan1-500x159.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Monitor climate factors. <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">When checking the weather and planning your day, keep these things in mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Heat and high humidity<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> promote the growth of molds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Cool nights and warm days<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> allow tree, grass, and ragweed pollens to thrive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>In spring and summer, <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">tree and grass<\/span><b> <\/b><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">pollen levels tend to peak in the evening.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>In late summer and early fall, <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">ragweed pollen levels tend to peak in the morning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Windy and warm days<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> often result in surging pollen counts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>After a rainfall, <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">pollen counts may go up, even though the rain temporarily washes pollen away.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">1<\/span><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Avoid your triggers.<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> If allergies are making you miserable, you may want to see an allergist. Specializing in allergies, this person can help you figure out what triggers your symptoms. Then you can find ways to cut off those triggers at the pass. During allergy season:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Keep windows and doors shut in your car and home.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Monitor pollen and mold counts daily. Weather reporters often provide this information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">After working or playing outdoors, take a shower, wash your hair, and change your clothes.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> 1<\/span><\/sup><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">When doing chores outside, wear a NIOSH-rated filter mask. Better yet? Delegate!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Be on the lookout for mold, which can build up in moist months. A deep spring cleaning will help get rid of mold and other allergens. Cleanliness may not be close to godliness. But it sure may help you feel better.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Clear the air with a HEPA room air cleaner rated with a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). If you have central air, use air filters with a MERV rating of 11 or 12. Change air filters every three months.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">3<\/span><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Relieve your symptoms. <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Corticosteroid nasal sprays, decongestants, antihistamines. These are examples of over-the-counter drugs that can help relieve your symptoms.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Come talk to me to make sure you\u2019re using them the right way. If side effects are a problem, we can work together to come up with a solution. For example, a few possible side effects of antihistamines are sleepiness, dry mouth, constipation, and light-headedness.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">4<\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">For some people, allergies can lead to or coexist with other health problems such as asthma or sinusitis. Asthma narrows or blocks the airways.
