The largest amphibious landing in history and one where the fist to storm the beaches faced overwhelming odds.  The bravery it took to leave their landing crafts and march forward wave after wave until a solid foothold had been gained can never be overstated.  D-Day marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany and the return of freedom for much of Europe. American soldiers encountered the newly formed German 352nd Division when landing.
