We urge the public to act now to prevent heat-related illness. Temperatures of 100 degrees or more will continue over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, \u201cTaking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug\/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to stay cool in hot weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CalaverasCountySeal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"218\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CalaverasCountySeal.jpg 220w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CalaverasCountySeal-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/CalaverasCountySeal-30x30.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are looking for a place to get out of the heat, see below:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Any county government facility<br \/>\n\uf0b7 County Library branches (see below &#038; attached)<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Any business open to the public<\/p>\n<p>In addition:<br \/>\nCalaveras County Health and Human Services \u2013 Sequoia Room<br \/>\n509 East St. Charles Street<br \/>\nSan Andreas, CA 95249<br \/>\nOpen Thursday 6\/22 and Friday 6\/23 until 8:00pm<\/p>\n<p>Valley Springs Library Branch \u2013 Extended Hours Thursday 6\/22<br \/>\n240 Pine St.<br \/>\nValley Springs, CA 95252<br \/>\nOpen 1:00-7:00pm<\/p>\n<p>During this heat wave, be sure to:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Drink plenty of water<br \/>\no Take enough water for yourself and those traveling with you when you leave home<br \/>\no Avoid drinks with caffeine (tea, coffee, and soft drinks)<br \/>\no Avoid alcoholic beverages<br \/>\no Provide plenty of water for pets<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay cool, stay indoors<br \/>\no Stay in an air conditioned area, if possible<br \/>\no If you do not have air conditioning, go to a place that is air conditioned<br \/>\no Take a cool shower or bath<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wear light clothing and sunscreen when outdoors<br \/>\no Choose lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing<br \/>\no Wear a wide-brimmed hat<br \/>\no Use sunscreen when outside (SPF 15 or higher) and reapply every two hours when in the sun<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Plan outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day<br \/>\no Avoid being out during the hottest part of the day<br \/>\no Rest often in a shady area<br \/>\no Never leave children or pets in a parked car<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Pace yourself<br \/>\no Take frequent, regularly scheduled breaks<br \/>\no If you don\u2019t feel well (for example: heart pounds, out of breath, lightheaded, confused, weak or faint) stop your activity and rest in a cool or shady area<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stay in touch with your family, friends, and neighbors daily<br \/>\no For those with health conditions and the elderly, check in more often<br \/>\no Have others check on you<\/p>\n<p>Heat related illness can be prevented by taking these steps, especially during a heat wave. \u201cDon\u2019t overestimate what you can do during a heat wave; assume it should be less than your normal level of activity,\u201d stated Dr. Kelaita.<br \/>\nThe warning signs of heat illness include heavy sweating, cramps, headache, nausea or vomiting, tiredness, weakness, dizziness and fainting.
