<\/p>\nSan Andreas, CA….Smoke from fires burning in Northern California is affecting parts of Calaveras County
\nresulting in poor air quality that can be harmful to residents, especially persons who are more sensitive to the effects of smoke. The Calaveras County Public Health Division and Air Pollution Control District have classified the air quality as unhealthy for sensitive groups. The combination of extreme heat for several days and poor air quality from wildfire smoke can increase the risk of smoke related health effects. All persons who can see or smell smoke should avoid outdoor activities. Some people are more sensitive to the effects of smoke. <\/p>\n

This includes:
\n\uf0b7 People with asthma and other respiratory diseases
\n\uf0b7 People with heart disease and high blood pressure
\n\uf0b7 Elderly People
\n\uf0b7 Children
\n\uf0b7 Pregnant Women
\n\uf0b7 People who smoke<\/p>\n
Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer, advises persons sensitive to the
\neffects of smoke should take the following actions:
\n\uf0b7 Stay indoors or limit time outdoors
\n\uf0b7 Keep house windows and doors closed
\n\uf0b7 Set air conditioners to re-circulate air if possible
\n\uf0b7 Limit physical activity and exertion
\n\uf0b7 Keep car windows closed; set air conditioning to re-circulate
\n\uf0b7 Follow your asthma management plan
\n\uf0b7 Reduce indoor air pollutants: Tobacco smoke, vacuuming, using paints or
\nsolvents<\/p>\n
People with heart or lung disease who experience repeated coughing, shortness of
\nbreath, difficulty breathing, wheezing, chest tightness or pain should contact their doctor
\nor clinic. \u201cIf an existing illness gets worse due to smoke exposure, get medical
\nassistance\u201d Dr. Kelaita emphasized. Fires and smoke may recur this summer. These
