\u201cAs a little girl all that I ever dreamed of was becoming a nurse,\u201d she adds. \u201cAnd when that happened, I knew I was meant to help families \u2013 to treat patients of all ages. Primary care is my dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nurse Practitioners are noted for putting patients at ease, spending time to get to know the person in order to better understand their health care needs. Guadalupe takes that a step further because she is bi-lingual and can interact with patients in Spanish. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt makes a big difference,\u201d she notes, because an interpreter is not likely to convey the nuances of \u201chow do you feel\u201d or \u201cwhere does it hurt?\u201d As an example, she mentions a recent Spanish-speaking clinic visitor who came in for treatment of what was incorrectly interpreted as a sore throat. \u201cThere were no indications of a problem with her throat,\u201d Guadalupe says. \u201cOnce I was able to talk with her in Spanish, it was clear her issue was something totally different \u2013 severe dry mouth. We were able to prescribe medication to clear it up.\u201d <\/p>\n
When she is not working, Guadalupe likes to spend time outdoors \u2013 especially fishing. \u201cI am a fisher woman,\u201d she smiles. \u201cMy husband loves to fish and I love it too.\u201d The couple plans an Alaskan fishing adventure later this year.
\nThey have a grown daughter and three grandsons.<\/p>\n
