{"id":50694,"date":"2018-01-05T09:41:07","date_gmt":"2018-01-05T17:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.46.6.243\/?p=50694"},"modified":"2018-01-05T09:41:07","modified_gmt":"2018-01-05T17:41:07","slug":"senate-leader-de-leon-introduces-legislation-to-allow-california-taxpayers-larger-deductions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=50694","title":{"rendered":"Senate Leader de Le\u00f3n Introduces Legislation to Allow California Taxpayers Larger Deductions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;.Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de Le\u00f3n (D-Los Angeles) introduced legislation today to protect California residents from the targeted federal tax increases that were enacted in the GOP\u2019s recent tax reform.  \u201cThe Republican tax plan gives corporations and hedge-fund managers a trillion-dollar tax cut and expects California taxpayers to foot the bill,\u201d Senator de Le\u00f3n said. \u201cWe won\u2019t allow California residents to be the casualty of this disastrous tax scheme.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/KevinDeLeon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-50696\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/KevinDeLeon.jpg 320w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/KevinDeLeon-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/KevinDeLeon-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>SB 227, the Protect California Taxpayers Act, would allow taxpayers to make charitable donation to the California Excellence Fund, and in return receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on the full amount of their contribution. <\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers will then be able to deduct their contribution to the Fund from their federal taxes, as they have historically done with their state tax payments.  SB 227 is modeled after laws Senator de Le\u00f3n authored in 2014 \u2013 SB 798 and SB 174, which provided tax credits on charitable donations made to state college affordability grants, like the Cal Grant program.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) added, \u201cI\u2019m proud to join with Pro Tem de Le\u00f3n and Senator Hill in authoring this proposal that seeks to preserve this important tax deduction for California taxpayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo and Santa Clara) said, \u201cThis legislation will protect Californians from losing money as a result of the federal tax ripoff.
