The intrusion of these drones in the air space of firefighting aircraft resulted in all air operations being suspended until the drones were located and grounded.  CAL FIRE San Benito-Monterey Unit would like to remind everyone that intrusion of the air space around a fire incident is highly dangerous to firefighting aircraft and firefighters on the ground.  Here are a few keep points to remember regarding the critical air space around a fire incident. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT.jpg\" alt=\"2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT\" width=\"640\" height=\"863\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6056\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT-570x769.jpg 570w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT-150x202.jpg 150w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2015_06_24-21.42.18.414-CDT-371x500.jpg 371w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tHobby drones, or UAS, pose a major safety threat to firefighting pilots and firefighters.<br \/>\n\u2022\tWhen a hobby drone is flown into a fire area, incident commanders have no<br \/>\n           choice but to suspend air operations and ground aircraft until the drone is<br \/>\n           removed from the area.<br \/>\n\u2022\tAs hobby drones have grown in popularity, we have seen an increase in<br \/>\n           these drones interfering with firefighting operations.<br \/>\n\u2022\tA collision could easily result in major damage to our aircraft, injuries to the<br \/>\n           pilot and crew on board as well as firefighters below, and worse, a midair<br \/>\n           collision.<br \/>\n\u2022\tWhen drones interfere with firefighting efforts, a wildfire has the potential to<br \/>\n           grow larger and cause more damage.<br \/>\n\u2022\tOn most wildfires, an FAA Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is put into<br \/>\n          effect and any private aircraft or drone that violates the TFR could face<br \/>\n          serious criminal charges.<br \/>\n\u2022\tEven without a TFR, anyone who hampers firefighting efforts could face<br \/>\n          charges as well.<br \/>\n\u2022\tFor more information on drones, the public can visit the FAA\u2019s website at<br \/>\n          www.KnowBeforeYouFly.org. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you fly, we can\u2019t!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more ways to prepare and prevent wildfires visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org or www.fire.ca.gov.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monterey, CA \u2013 CAL FIRE has reported several instances of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), otherwise known has Hobby Drones, flying in the vicinity of the Lake fire in San Bernardino County.
