{"id":62074,"date":"2018-06-26T12:13:24","date_gmt":"2018-06-26T19:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.46.6.243\/?p=62074"},"modified":"2018-06-26T12:13:24","modified_gmt":"2018-06-26T19:13:24","slug":"attorney-general-becerra-co-leads-lawsuit-against-trump-administrations-child-separation-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=62074","title":{"rendered":"Attorney General Becerra Co-leads Lawsuit Against Trump Administration&#8217;s Child Separation Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today announced that he is co-leading a coalition of 18 attorneys general, along with Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, in filing a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over the cruel and unlawful policy of forcibly separating children from their parents without any legitimate justification. The complaint alleges that the Trump Administration\u2019s family separation policy violates the fundamental due process rights of parents to be together with their children, equal protection rights afforded to parents and their children, as well as other constitutional and statutory claims.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Xavier_Becerra_official_portrait_as_attorney_general_of_California.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"330\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43749\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Xavier_Becerra_official_portrait_as_attorney_general_of_California.jpg 220w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Xavier_Becerra_official_portrait_as_attorney_general_of_California-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Xavier_Becerra_official_portrait_as_attorney_general_of_California-150x225.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cChild internment camps in America&#8230;the Trump Administration has hit a new low. President Trump\u2019s indifference towards the human rights of the children and parents who have been ripped away from one another is chilling,\u201d said Attorney General Xavier Becerra. \u201cToday we are taking the Trump Administration to court because the safety, security and well-being of our children is too important to be threatened by a heartless political maneuver. Not only does the Trump Administration\u2019s policy impact the health and safety of these separated families, it also threatens California\u2019s ability to ensure our residents\u2019 rights and health are protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI strongly support our Attorney General\u2019s efforts to protect children and keep families together. It\u2019s the right thing to do,\u201d said Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint alleges that the Trump Administration\u2019s \u201czero tolerance\u201d policy is in violation of parents\u2019 and children\u2019s constitutional rights, is detrimental to the health and safety of California residents, and violates the state\u2019s sovereignty provided by the U.S. Constitution.
