Markleeville, CA…(Ebbetts Pass Closed 5am to 3pm) Celebrating 38 years in California\u2019s Alps (1980-2018) Recognized as one of the premier cycling events in the West. The Alpine County Chamber of Commerce invites riders to participate in the Tour of the California Alps \u2013 Death Ride\u00ae, while enjoying the magnificent scenery and warm hospitality of Alpine County!
\n Registration along with the start and end point of the ride takes place at Turtle Rock Park just north (Hwy 89) of Markleeville, California. The five pass ride includes 129 miles and 15,000+ feet of lung busting climbing. You also have the option of riding one, two, three, four or five passes. For your safety, the first four passes will be closed at specific times to vehicular traffic.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s ride returns riders to our infamous five pass course including:
\n\u2022 Monitor Pass (Highway 89) 8,314 feet
\n\u2022 Ebbetts Pass (Highway 4) 8,730 feet
\n\u2022 Carson Pass (Highway 88) 8,580 feet<\/p>\n

Five pass finishers will receive a Five-Pass Pin and are eligible to purchase an exclusive Five-Pass Finisher Jersey.<\/p>\n

The 2018 Tour of the California Alps \u2013 Death Ride\u00ae will affect three California highways; State Route 4 SR-4 Ebbetts Pass, SR-89 Monitor Pass and SR-88 Carson Pass.
\nOn Saturday, July 14, 2018 State Highways will be impacted as follows:<\/p>\n

\u2022 SR-89 Monitor Pass will be closed from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm.<\/p>\n

\u2022 SR-4 Ebbetts Pass will be closed from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm.<\/p>\n

\u2022 SR-89 from Markleeville to the intersection of SR-4 and SR-89 will be closed from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm as determined appropriate by the California Highway Patrol. It is anticipated that access to the Carson River north of Markleeville will be available shortly after 7:00 am.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Portions of SR-88 Carson Pass from the Top of Carson Pass to Woodfords and the segment of SR-89 from Woodfords to Markleeville will be subject to lowered speed limit zones and associated longer travel times.<\/p>\n

The highway closures and reduced speed limits are approved under permit from the State of California. For the safety of the special event participants, please plan alternate travel routes.<\/p>\n
