The Ferguson Fire is burning in very rough terrain with high firefighter exposure due to very hot conditions and limited access requiring heavy rotor wing support. The fire grew more than 2,500 acres throughout the day and into the night hours Friday. Prior to the Rough Fire, this river canyon held the record for the largest fire on the Sierra NF which burned in 1924.<\/p>\n

The fire is 30,493acres with 6% containment. 2,903 personnel are currently engaged on the fire which includes 204 engines, 38 water tenders, 17 helicopters, 72 crews, and 42 dozers. There has been 1 fatality and 4 injuries to date.<\/p>\n

The Stanislaus National Forest contains many special places, including the entire Emigrant Wilderness as well as portions of the Carson-Iceberg and Mokelumne Wilderness Areas. Together, these three Wilderness Areas make up almost one quarter of the Stanislaus National Forest and contain some of the Forest’s most spectacular scenery.<\/p>\n
First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.<\/p>\n
