Awahanee, CA, July 26, 2018\u00a0– Yosemite National Park officials announced\u00a0closures<\/a>\u00a0to the Yosemite Valley and Wawona areas, as well as the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, effective noon on Wednesday, July 25. With the ongoing closure of Highway140, visitors can exit the park using Highways 120 and 41. Yosemite National Park is experiencing high fire danger, along with continued hot and dry weather patterns. Due to the current and predicted fire conditions and fire behavior, the Superintendent of Yosemite National Park will be implementing\u00a0Stage 1 fire restrictions<\/a>\u00a0until further notice is given. With the ongoing closure of Highway 140, park visitors can exit the park via Highways 120 and 41. The temporary closure is expected to last until Sunday, July 29, 2018.<\/p>\n

The Ferguson Fire now in its 14th day, started July 13 on the Sierra National Forest and is managed under unified command between the United States Forest Service, California Interagency Incident Management Team 4, CALFIRE and the Mariposa County Sheriff\u2019s Office. Much of the fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with little to no access roads. Mandatory and advisory evacuations are in place in several areas but no homes have been damaged or destroyed.<\/p>\n

The Ferguson Fire is burning in very rough terrain with high firefighter exposure due to very hot conditions and limited access requiring heavy rotor wing support. Prior to the Rough Fire, this river canyon held the record for the largest fire on the Sierra NF which burned in 1924.<\/p>\n

The fire is 43,299 acres with 27% containment. 3,686 personnel are currently engaged on the fire which includes 241 engines, 47 water tenders, 18 helicopters, 94 crews, and 63 dozers. There has been 1 fatality and 7 injuries to date. 1 structure has been destroyed.<\/p>\n
