The firefighter\u2019s identity is being withheld until appropriate family notifications have been made.  The fatal incident occurred earlier this morning. At the time, the firefighter and his crew were engaged in a tactical firing operation on the east side of the Ferguson Fire.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fergbanner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fergbanner.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fergbanner-300x94.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fergbanner-570x178.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They were operating in an area with a large amount of tree mortality. The firefighter was struck by a tree. He was treated on scene, but passed away before he could be transported to a hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team at Sequoia and Kings National Park is devastated by this terrible news,\u201d says parks superintendent Woody Smeck. \u201cOur deepest condolences go out to the firefighter\u2019s family and loved ones. We grieve this loss<br \/>\nwith you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further public information will be made available once the firefighter\u2019s family has been notified.
