Because the Calaveras County geography may entrap smoke in certain valleys and basins, the<br \/>\nfollowing visibility chart can be used to determine the air quality where you are. Visibility provides an excellent measure of air quality.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fireair.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"305\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fireair.jpg 640w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fireair-300x143.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fireair-570x272.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To use the chart, start by identifying, on a map, certain landmarks on the horizon. Then check to<br \/>\nsee at what distance the landmarks can no longer be seen. The distance of this landmark is the<br \/>\n\u201cvisibility in miles.\u201d<br \/>\nGeneral cautionary measures, the following measures can be taken to protect during periods of<br \/>\npoor air quality:<br \/>\n\u2022 Minimize or stop outdoor activities, especially exercise<br \/>\nPage 2 of 2<br \/>\n\u2022 Stay indoors with windows and doors closed as much as possible<br \/>\n\u2022 Do not run fans that bring smoky outdoor air inside \u2013 examples include swamp coolers,<br \/>\nwhole-house fans, and fresh air ventilation systems<br \/>\n\u2022 Run your air-conditioner only if it does not bring smoke in from the outdoors. Change the<br \/>\nstandard air conditioner filter to a medium or high efficiency filter. If available, use the<br \/>\n\u201cre-circulate\u201d or \u201crecycle\u201d setting on the unit<br \/>\n\u2022 Do not smoke, vacuum, fry food, or do other things that will create indoor air pollution<br \/>\n\u2022 If you have asthma, take your medications and follow your asthma management plan<\/p>\n<p>Even healthy persons can be affected by wildfire smoke. If you can see or smell smoke, take<br \/>\nprecautions.
