Heavy, fiveaxle trucks represent more than one-third of the truck traffic volume, adding to roadway deterioration as they haul freight on this vital interregional roadway between the Central Valley and the Sierra Nevada. Those motorists now have a safer roadway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese mountain highway projects are critical because these roads are the lifeline for communities like Long Barn, Pinecrest, Twain Harte and others,\u201d said Caltrans District 10 Director Dennis T. Agar. \u201cOur highway is the only road that connects them, so they\u2019re counting on us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This $2.2 million paving project was performed by George Reed Inc. SB 1 funds will enable Caltrans to fix more than 17,000 lane miles of pavement, 500 bridges and 55,000 culverts by 2027.
