Murphys, CA…Mind Matters, a non-profit clinic located in Murphys that serves individuals and families affected by ADD\/ADHD, learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, received a generous grant of $4,800 from the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) in April 2018. The money was allocated for the purchase of eight Fast ForWord licenses. Fast ForWord, a neuroscience based computer program developed by Scientific Learning (www.scilearn.com) targets foundational cognitive skills including memory, attention, processing and sequencing. These skills are essential for phonics, word fluency, and comprehension. <\/p>\n

Since receiving the licenses, eight children have completed this 40 day program with great success! Though Fast ForWord is not a reading program, one of the measurable results is an improvement in reading proficiency. Another common benefit is a noticeable increase in self-confidence. The words of one parent \u201cMy son has learned to speak words he couldn\u2019t before. He also communicates with others around him. Because of these improvements his self-confidence and attitude have gotten so much better\u201d are echoed by dozens of families who have participated in Fast ForWord at Mind Matters. <\/p>\n
