San Andreas –\u00a0The 2020 Mountain Oaks Academic Decathlon Team are the Calaveras & Tuolumne Regional Champions of the 41st<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Regional Academic Decathlon Competition. This year\u2019s competition took place on Feb. 1, 2020 at Sonora High School. This year\u2019s curriculum theme was \u201cIn Sickness and in Health: An Exploration of Illness and Wellness\u201d.\u00a0 Students compete in ten events: Economics, Essay, Art, Interview, Language and Literature, Math, Music, Social Science, Speech, and Written Super Quiz. This year\u2019s four competing high schools included Bret Harte High School, Mountain Oaks School, Summerville High School, and Tioga High School.<\/p>\n

Mountain Oaks decathletes studied 10 subjects for the past 6 months focused on the theme of Health and Wellness. Their team scored first in the Super Quiz and outscored the other 3 competing high schools. \u201cWe will be participating in the California State Academic Decathlon in Sacramento on March 26th-29th<\/sup>\u00a0and I am so proud of these hard-working students,\u201d said Mountain Oaks Academic Decathlon Coach Rose Justi. The team is led by Team Captain, Alexa Hughes., a four-year member of the team. Alexa is also the overall Regional Top Scorer and the Honors Level Top Scorer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank the dozens of family members and staff who were on hand to cheer for our team during this exhilarating event,\u201d said Mountain Oaks School Administrator Bill Redford. In addition, \u201cA special thank you to Music Instructor Ellen Davison, Speech Instructor Mike Nagano, Science Instructor John Kenney and Daniel O\u2019Connell and Interview Instructor and Academic Decathlon Coach Rose Justi.
