Joan grew up in southern California and attended the University of California at Long Beach where she met her husband. After retiring from the Thousand Oaks School District she and her husband decided to move to the Sierras because of their love for backpacking and camping. Joan has also had a lifelong passion for California history and credits her grandmother for planting the \u201cseed of historical curiosity in\u201d her.<\/p>\n
After moving to Arnold in 2011 Joan became immersed in Calaveras Big Trees State Park as a docent. Two years later, she was a director on the Association\u2019s Board and is currently the Vice-President. Besides chairing events for the park, she is the park\u2019s historian conducting oral interviews and overseeing the Park\u2019s annual Discovery Day, held in July. Discovery Day introduces historical knowledge to park visitors through docent interpretation.<\/p>\n
Joan always looks forward to meeting more people with a historical connection to Big Trees State Park. \u201cTheir stories are always fascinating!\u201d<\/p>\n
