<\/p>\nSutter Creek, CA \u2013 Amador County Public Health confirms a county resident traveling abroad has been diagnosed with novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This individual has not been at home in the county. No persons in the county were exposed. This individual poses no risk to Amador County.<\/p>\n

Amador County Public Health continues to work closely with our state and federal public health partners to closely monitor and respond to the outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), a new respiratory virus. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Local health care providers are also working with Public Health to ensure readiness to respond to this novel virus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe vast majority of those who contract COVID-19 exhibit mild symptoms,\u201d states Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer. \u201cBut, we are concerned for more vulnerable members of our community who are more at risk of severe illness.\u201d<\/p>\n
To protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19, non-essential large gatherings of 250 people or more should be postponed or canceled for at least the remainder of the month of March. Smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet should be postponed or canceled. Gatherings of individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should be limited to no more than 10 people.<\/p>\n
In addition to social distancing, Amador County residents should be practicing the recommended measures to prevent respiratory infections:
\n\u2022 Wash your hands with soap and water, rubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds.
\n\u2022 Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when your cough.
\n\u2022 Stay home if you are sick.<\/p>\n
Seasonal flu activity remains high in California. Amador Public Health also recommends getting a flu shot to protect from the flu.<\/p>\n
