California now has 13,438 confirmed cases and 319 deaths. As of April 4, local health departments have reported 197 confirmed positive cases in health care workers. At least 116,563\u00a0results have been received and another 15,000 are pending. These numbers include data California has received from commercial, private and academic labs, including\u00a0Quest, LabCorp, Kaiser, University of California and Stanford,\u00a0and the 22\u00a0<a title=\"state and county health labs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/PublishingImages\/COVID-19\/COVID-19-CaliforniaMap-March18-01.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">state and county health labs<\/span><\/a>\u00a0currently testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewsItemContent\">How People Can Protect Themselves<br \/>\nEvery person has a role to play. Protecting yourself and your family comes down to common sense:<\/p>\n<div class=\"NewsItemContent\">\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Staying home except for\u00a0<a title=\"essential needs\/activities\" href=\"https:\/\/covid19.ca.gov\/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">essential needs\/activities<\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Practicing social distancing.<\/li>\n<li>Washing hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.<\/li>\n<li>Covering a cough or sneeze with your sleeve, or disposable tissue. Wash your hands afterward.<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.<\/li>\n<li>Staying away from work, school or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.<\/li>\n<li>Following guidance from public health officials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What to Do if You Think You&#8217;re Sick<br \/>\nCall ahead: If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough or shortness of breath) and may have had contact with a person with COVID-19, or recently traveled to countries with apparent community spread, call your health care provider before seeking medical care so that appropriate precautions can be taken.<\/p>\n<p>More information about what Californians can do to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is available at\u00a0<a title=\"www.covid19.ca.gov\" href=\"https:\/\/www.covid19.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.covid19.ca.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>California continues to issue guidance on preparing and protecting California from COVID-19.
