bleaker for Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. \u00a0Walker, who topped the Iowa leaderboard in the <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/726-ia-walker-trump-vie-for-lead-nh-trump-leads-gop-sanders-closes-gap-against-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\">July NBC News\/Marist Poll<\/a> with 19%, now receives only single-digit support, 5%, as does Bush, 6%, who placed third in that previous survey with 12%.\u00a0 In New Hampshire, support for Bush and Walker has also fallen among the potential GOP electorate.<\/p>\n<p>On the Democratic side, the race for the presidential nomination has undergone a major upheaval.\u00a0 While former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads Sanders by 11 points, 48% to 37%, among the potential Democratic electorate in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=6\" target=\"_blank\">Iowa<\/a>,<\/strong> Clinton\u2019s lead has narrowed from 29 points in July.\u00a0 The tables have turned for Clinton in <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/NHpolls\/NH150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_New%20Hampshire%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=7\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>New Hampshire<\/strong> <\/a>where Sanders has surpassed her, 49% to 38%.\u00a0 Clinton previously had a 13 point lead over Sanders.<\/p>\n<p>What would happen if Vice President Joe Biden decides to enter the race?\u00a0 Clinton and Sanders maintain their respective leads in <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=7\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Iowa<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/NHpolls\/NH150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_New%20Hampshire%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=8\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>New Hampshire<\/strong><\/a>, and Biden places third.\u00a0 However, in Iowa, Biden has doubled his support, 20% from 10%, since the previous NBC News\/Marist Poll in the state.\u00a0 His support is also up to 16% from 12% in New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>And, looking at the general election, Clinton now loses to Bush in both states, trails Trump in Iowa, and runs evenly with him in New Hampshire.\u00a0 In contrast, Vice President Joe Biden is more competitive against Bush and leads Trump in both states.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/NH-Potential-Republican-Electorate_Primary.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been a massive shakeup in both parties, in both states,\u201d says Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s been a summer of surprises with Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders sitting in the front car of the rollercoaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poll points:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trump is outpacing his competitors for the Republican nomination across the board.\u00a0 He runs best among Tea Party identifiers, independents, voters without a college education, and men.<\/li>\n<li>Carson has made major inroads in Iowa.\u00a0 He has catapulted to second place and runs competitively with Trump among white evangelical Christians and conservative voters.\u00a0 He leads Trump in Iowa, 27% to 22%, among college educated voters.\u00a0 In New Hampshire, Carson and Kasich have nearly doubled their support from the previous July survey.<\/li>\n<li>Bush and Walker have seen their support in each state fade.\u00a0 Bush is down to single digits, overall, and among most key groups in each state.\u00a0 Walker\u2019s support has collapsed in both states.\u00a0 In Iowa, his support dropped from 19% in July to 5% now, and from 12% to 4% in New Hampshire.<\/li>\n<li>Clinton now trails Sanders in New Hampshire, 38% to 49%.\u00a0 Although Clinton still carries Democrats and women by 7 points, Sanders leads by 36 points among independents, 32 points among men and people under 45, and 15 points among liberals.\u00a0 In Iowa, Clinton\u2019s lead has narrowed from 29 points in July to 11 points currently.\u00a0 Although the slippage has been modest among Democrats, her support among independents and moderates has plummeted.<\/li>\n<li>Among women, while Clinton outpaced Sanders by 25 points in New Hampshire in July, she now only has a 7 point edge.\u00a0 Her lead among women voters in Iowa has narrowed from 47 points to 23.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/Complete%20September%202015%20Iowa_New%20Hampshire_NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll%20Release.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Complete September 6, 2015 NBC News\/Marist Poll Release of Iowa and New Hampshire<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Complete September 6, 2015 NBC News\/Marist Poll Tables of Iowa<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/NHpolls\/NH150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_New%20Hampshire%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Complete September 6, 2015 NBC News\/Marist Poll Tables of New Hampshire\u00a0 <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump and Sanders Receive Boost in Favorable Ratings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Majorities of potential Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire have a positive impression of Trump, a dramatic shift from July.\u00a0 While potential GOP voters also perceive Bush and Walker positively, Bush\u2019s negatives are up in New Hampshire, and Walker\u2019s negatives are on the rise in Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the Democratic candidates vying for their party\u2019s nomination, they are viewed positively by the potential Democratic electorates in Iowa and New Hampshire.\u00a0 However, Sanders\u2019 positive ratings have improved.\u00a0 And, while Clinton is still well-received in Iowa, she has experienced a decline in her favorable rating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s less the case that Clinton, Bush, and Walker\u2019s negative ratings have skyrocketed than Sanders and Trump have struck a chord with voters,\u201d says Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.\u00a0 \u201cAs a result, they score much better on the ballot question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poll points:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Iowa, 58% of the Iowa potential Republican electorate has a favorable view of <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=13\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Trump<\/strong>.<\/a>\u00a0 In July, potential GOP voters were divided in their opinion of him, 45% positive and 44% negative.\u00a0 In New Hampshire, impressions of <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/NHpolls\/NH150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_New%20Hampshire%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=14\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Trump<\/strong> <\/a>have gone from upside down in July, 39% positive and 53% negative, to 56% favorable and 39% unfavorable among potential GOP voters.<\/li>\n<li>Although <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=12\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Walker\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> support on the ballot question has considerably declined, a majority of potential Republican voters in Iowa, 52%, still have a positive opinion of him.\u00a0 His negative score though has inched up to 17% from 10% in the state.\u00a0 Voters\u2019 impressions of him are little changed in New Hampshire.<\/li>\n<li>Bush has also seen only a modest change in how voters view him.\u00a0 49% of potential Republican voters in both <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=11\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Iowa<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/NHpolls\/NH150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_New%20Hampshire%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=12\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>New Hampshire<\/strong><\/a> now have a favorable opinion of him.\u00a0 This compares with 51% in Iowa and 56% in New Hampshire just two months ago.<\/li>\n<li>On the Democratic side, <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=9\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Biden<\/strong><\/a> is favorably viewed by 74% of potential Democratic voters in Iowa.\u00a0 This compares with 67% who have this impression of <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=8\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Clinton<\/strong>,<\/a> and 65% who share this view of <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/misc\/IApolls\/IA150826\/NBC%20News_Marist%20Poll_Iowa%20Nature%20of%20the%20Sample%20and%20Tables_September%202015.pdf#page=10\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sanders<\/strong>.<\/a>\u00a0 Clinton\u2019s positive score has declined from 74% while Sanders favorable rating has increased from 54%.<\/li>\n<li><a state.\u00a0 In July, 49% thought Mr. Obama\u2019s job performance was lacking while 43% thought well of how he was doing in office.<\/li>\n<li>In New Hampshire, 42% approve of the president\u2019s job performance while 52% do not.\u00a0 The president received nearly identical scores in July.<\/li>\n<li>54% of Iowa residents approve of how Governor Branstad is performing in office.\u00a0 50% held this view earlier in the summer.<\/li>\n<li>50% of adults in New Hampshire, down from 56% in July, approve of how Maggie Hassan is doing her job.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a
