The two cases are unrelated. The first case is an adult male from Valley Springs. The exposure to COVID-19 has been determined to be linked to a case already known by Calaveras Public Health. The second case is an older adult male from West Point. The source of the exposure regarding this individual is currently being investigated.  \u201cWe should expect additional cases of novel coronavirus among Calaveras residents before the outbreak begins to subside. Please know that the actions you take today are the best way for us to slow the spread of COVID-19 into Calaveras communities,\u201d said Dean Kelaita, MD, Calaveras County Health Officer. \u201cIn order to keep our numbers low it is important for people to limit interactions with those outside of their households.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"271\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-98549\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid.jpg 571w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/cccovid-570x271.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Calaveras Public Health advises the public that the best defense against COVID-19 is to:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eye, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Self-isolate if you are sick<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Maintain physical distancing (especially by staying at home)<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wear a cloth face covering when out in public for essential activities<br \/>\nCalaveras Public Health staff will continue to investigate these two new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individuals, including any friends or family members, and to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Testing for coronavirus will be arranged if indicated. Close personal contacts identified during this investigation will be placed under strict quarantine.<\/p>\n<p>Public Health advises everyone that if you are ill with a fever or respiratory symptoms, even with mild symptoms, please self- isolate at home for 7 days and until you are fever and symptom free for 72 hours. If you have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, or is presumed to be infected with COVID-19, you should quarantine at home for 14 days from your last contact with that individual. Older adults and those who have underlying health conditions, or are pregnant, may be at higher risk of serious illness and should contact their doctor as soon as they become sick.<\/p>\n<p>The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now eleven.
