<\/p>\nSan Andreas, CA…On Friday, April 17, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed an additional case of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. This case is an older adult female from West Point. The individual is linked to a case already known to Calaveras Public Health. \u201cThis newest case is in a household contact to a known case of COVID-19. Transmission within a household setting is not uncommon, and does not represent community transmission of disease within the wider West Point area. We ask that the people in Calaveras County continue to do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 into our communities,\u201d said Dean Kelaita, MD, Calaveras County Health Officer. \u201cIf we remain committed to the actions that keep us healthy, that will help us block the transmission of COVID-19 and get through this unprecedented time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both of the COVID-19 cases in the West Point area are under strict isolation, and no new case of disease have been reported. Public Health staff continue to investigate the cases for further information to determine the exact source of infection.<\/p>\n
Calaveras Public Health advises the public to:
\n\uf0b7 Wash your hands often with soap and water
\n\uf0b7 Avoid touching your eye, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
\n\uf0b7 Self-isolate if you are sick
\n\uf0b7 Maintain physical distancing (especially by staying at home)
\n\uf0b7 Wear a cloth face covering when out in public for essential activities<\/p>\n
Calaveras Public Health staff will continue to investigate this additional case to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individuals, including any friends or family members, and to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Close personal contacts identified during this investigation will be placed under strict quarantine.<\/p>\n
Public Health advises everyone that if you are ill with a fever or respiratory symptoms, even with mild symptoms, please self- isolate at home for 7 days and until you are fever and symptom free for 72 hours. If you have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, or is presumed to be infected with COVID-19, you should quarantine at home for 14 days from your last contact with that individual. Older adults and those who have underlying health conditions, or are pregnant, may be at higher risk of serious illness and should contact their doctor as soon as they become sick.<\/p>\n
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now twelve. Of those confirmed cases, seven cases have since recovered. To date, there have been no reported fatalities to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
