Attorney General Becerra,\u00a0along with state partners,\u00a0filed a lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0on February 20, 2020, challenging the Trump Administration\u2019s decision to adopt scientifically deficient biological opinions that enable additional water exports from the San Joaquin Delta without providing adequate safeguards for endangered species. The lawsuit argues that the Trump Administration’s actions violate\u00a0the state\u00a0and federal\u00a0Endangered Species Acts, the\u00a0Administrative Procedure Act,\u00a0and the National Environmental Policy Act\u00a0by failing to\u00a0protect endangered\u00a0species and their habitat in the Sacramento and San Joaquin River watersheds, including the San Joaquin Delta.<\/p>\n In today\u2019s filing, Attorney General Becerra argues that\u00a0a preliminary injunction is necessary to prevent immediate and\u00a0irreversible harm to\u00a0California’s ecosystem, particularly to California\u2019s\u00a0endangered Delta smelt, longfin smelt, and threatened steelhead trout.
