{"id":99604,"date":"2020-04-24T15:26:18","date_gmt":"2020-04-24T22:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.46.6.243\/?p=99604"},"modified":"2020-04-24T15:26:18","modified_gmt":"2020-04-24T22:26:18","slug":"dmv-waives-late-fees-delays-registration-requirements-extends-permits-ids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/?p=99604","title":{"rendered":"DMV Waives Late Fees, Delays Registration Requirements &#038; Extends Permits &#038; IDs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sacramento, CA&#8230;The California Department of Motor Vehicles today announced it is waiving late fees and penalties for vehicle registration, extending expiring identification cards, temporary operating permits and motor carrier permits.\u00a0 With authority granted under today\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/EO-N-54-20-04.22.2020-text.pdf\">executive order<\/a>\u00a0signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the DMV is:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99607\" src=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dmvlogo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dmvlogo1.jpg 320w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dmvlogo1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dmvlogo1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/new.thepinetree.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dmvlogo1-30x30.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waiving late fees and penalties for vehicle registration renewals due between March 16 and May 31, 2020, and paid within 60 days of the original expiration date. The requirement to have current license plate stickers is also waived for vehicles with registration expiring between March 4 and June 30, 2020.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extending identification cards expiring on or after March 4, 2020, to be valid through June 22, 2020 (60 days from today).<\/li>\n<li>Temporarily suspending for 60 days the requirement to submit a transfer of ownership within 10 days for vehicle transfers occurring on or after March 4, 2020, and the requirement to register a vehicle acquired or previously based outside of California within 20 days\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv\/detail\/pubs\/brochures\/howto\/htvr33\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">once registration becomes due<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Allowing\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv\/detail\/pubs\/brochures\/fast_facts\/ffvr36#top\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">temporary operating permits<\/a>\u00a0that expire on or after March 4, 2020, to be valid another 60 days from today.<\/li>\n<li>Lengthening motor carrier permits expiring in March, April and May 2020 to June 30, 2020. A motor carrier permit is required for numerous transportation and commercial activities in California, including transporting property for compensation, hauling with a commercial vehicle weighing more than 10,000 pounds, and transporting hazardous materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThese measures can help lighten the burden many Californians are experiencing during this difficult time,\u201d DMV Director Steve Gordon said.<\/p>\n<p>The DMV continues to encourage customers to renew their vehicle registration and complete vehicle transfers online or by using the DMV Virtual Field Office. Customers can also get replacement registration cards and license plate stickers online or at the hundreds of\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv\/detail\/fo\/fo_sst\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DMV kiosks<\/a>\u00a0across the state. Replacement cards and stickers at the DMV kiosks cost $22 and print on the spot.<\/p>\n<p>The DMV continues to provide essential services via mail, online, kiosks, call centers, available business partners and virtually to process critical transactions, including eligible driver license and vehicle registration renewals, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Customers can use the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv\/detail\/portal\/foa\/servicesadvisor\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Service Advisor<\/a>\u00a0on the DMV website to learn their options to complete DMV tasks.<\/p>\n<p>The relief measures are the latest DMV actions during the COVID-19 pandemic, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv\/detail\/pubs\/newsrel\/2020\/2020_14\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Temporarily closing field offices<\/a>. Following deep cleaning, expansion of virtual services and development of new protocols, the DMV soon will offer in-person services in each region. Information on office openings will be announced by DMV in the near future.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv\/detail\/pubs\/newsrel\/2020\/2020_17\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Extending all driver licenses<\/a>\u00a0that expire between March 1 and May 31, 2020. Drivers 70 years and older are receiving a 120-day temporary paper extension in the mail, and drivers 69 and younger can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/virtual.dmv.ca.gov\/home\/temporary-driver-license-request\/\">request a free temporary paper extension online<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping expiring commercial driver licenses, endorsements and certificates valid through June 30, 2020.<\/li>\n<li>Temporarily waiving required in-person renewals for eligible driver license and identification cardholders with expirations in March, April, and May 2020.
