Frogtown, USA…Jumping Frog Jubilee…hopping on into next year! Logan and Madison Busch will return to Frogtown in May 2021 to defend their sweep of last year’s Frog Jump Grand Finals. The 14-year-old twins from San Jose, California won big – only a little over one inch separating Logan’s first place score of 18 feet, 6 inches from his sister’s second place finish of 18 feet, 4 3/4inches.
Cancellation of this year’s Fair due COVID-19 gives Frog Jump competitors like Logan and Madison extra time to refine their skills. Sibling rivalry figures prominently in their approach.
Logan explains, “As far as frog jumping goes, since Maddy and I are twins everything around our house is a competition. And Frog Jump is a big part of that – it is really fun for us.”
The twins are the third generation of their family to be part of the World’s Championship Giudici, Guzules and Matasci Frog Team. Their grandfather has been on the team for over 20 years and the twins have been jumping frogs as long as they can remember – and, they’ve learned from the best.
Their mentors have included the late Lee Guidici, who set the current World’s Record in 1986 and the late Denny Matasci, who held the title in 1976.
Bill Guzules has been a proud mentor to the twins throughout their years of frog jumping – he helped inspire the twins’ victory last year and continues to cheer them on.
Bill is among many veteran Frog Team members working with the Frog Jump Committee to plan special Frog Jumping Fun at the Hometown Hoedown planned Oct. 2-4 at Frogtown.
