Boulder Creek Man Arrested on Various Felony Charges After Assaulting Hwy 108 Closure Gates

Sonora, CA…On May 11, 2020, at approximately 2:45PM, a CHP Officer arrested 27-year-old Anon Carpenter Bird of Boulder Creek, Ca. at the Don Pedro Lookout. Bird was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle (Chevy Silverado) and a loaded firearm. The stolen vehicle and handgun were reported stolen out of Nye County Nevada. Bird was arrested and booked in the Tuolumne County jail for multiple felony charges.

On May 12, 2020, at approximately 3:30PM Caltrans reported to the CHP that both Highway SR-108 Kennedy Meadow winter closure gates were vandalized. One gate was opened with bolt cutters and the other gate was rammed with a vehicle causing damage to both gates. Caltrans provided a plastic brake light lens from the responsible vehicle that was left at the scene.

This brake light lens appeared to match the vehicle that was stolen out of Nye County Nevada. The brake light lens was compared with the stolen vehicle which was missing the left rear brake light lens and was a perfect match. The stolen vehicle also had collision damage to the back as well as paint transfer matching the closure gates.

Felony vandalism charges will also be recommended in addition to the original felony charges filed against Bird.
