Lake Tahoe, CA/NV…On May 20th we had a business meeting that couldn’t be done remotely in the Lake Tahoe area and we thought we would take the opportunity while we were there to see how the Coronovirus shutdown has affected our neighbors to the north. As depressing as it has been in the Mother Lode and Western Slope areas to us it appeared the Tahoe area has fared worse.

Our economy has been decimated but we still have portions functioning during the shutdown. Here tourism is a large portion of the economy. In the Lake Tahoe area tourism is the economy. The Lake Tahoe area has also been aggressive in deterring visitors including part time homeowners at the start. They have since changed messaging and are now welcoming the second home owners but not tourists that do not have financial ties to the area.
The Lake Tahoe area is also very hard to manage from a jurisdiction perspective. Think about this not only are there two states there are two counties and one city on the Nevada side and three counties and the City of South Lake Tahoe on the California side.
To say it is a hodgepodge of rules and regulations is an understatement.
What it has going for it is a truly visually overwhelming setting.
This video starts at the Casinos in Stateline and goes up the Nevada side through Incline Village and then we curve through Kings Beach and head over to Tahoe City, down West Shore, make a stop in Emerald Bay and back to South Lake Tahoe again.
This is the whole drive…enjoy.
