Meet Leah & Mia Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pets of the Week

San Andreas, CA…Meet Mia and Leah, littermates of about a year old.  Both were teen moms whose kittens have since been adopted and are now ready for a home of their own.  Mia is a shorthaired tortoiseshell tabby (torbie) with distinctive black swirls on her sides.  Leah is also a shorthaired torbie though with more dilute colors and enormous green eyes.  Super friendly and insistent when she wants attention, Mia will gently grab your hand with her little paws and pull it toward her.  She likes to rub up against you but is too full of energy to sit still on your lap for long.  Sister Leah is friendly with a calm personality and enjoys being around people though waits for a human to approach and make the first move.  She, too, is not a cuddle cat and enjoys sitting beside but not on you.  Before arriving at the shelter, the girls lived mostly outdoors and likely miss being outside exploring the sights and sounds of nature. Should their new people prefer having indoor-outdoor kitties, they must commit to keeping them inside for at least three weeks so the girls understand that this is their new home and will not take off and disappear. Though not a bonded pair, it would be wonderful if they could be placed together to keep each other entertained when you cannot be there.

As with all cats available for adoption, both Leah and Mia are up-to-date on their routine vaccinations and have been micro-chipped. Both have now been spayed and able to go home with you today!

Currently, the Calaveras shelter remains open for visitors wishing to adopt. We are, however, limiting viewing to one person at a time in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please understand there may be a wait for you to view the shelter animals, many of which still await their forever homes during this pandemic. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at http://animal.calaverasgov.us/Adoptions and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Animal Services now has a Fee Flexibility Program!
When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
