Five local Community Leaders Appointed to Mark Twain Medical Center Community Board

San Andreas, CA…Five new community members have recently been appointed to serve on the Mark Twain Medical Centers (MTMC) Community Board. The mission and purpose of the MTMC Hospital Community Board is: (a) provide local oversight of quality of care delivered in the local hospital; (b) oversee medical staff functions; and (c) to provide advice and counsel to the Dignity Health/Dignity Care Boards that reflects the communities and markets served by local facilities. Some Hospital Community Boards support individual facilities; others support several facilities in the same region or market.

The newly appointed board members representing the community are:

Angels Camp resident Sal Lo Franco, a retired Firefighter and Division Chief, who has been very active with the Hospital Foundation Board for over ten years serving on the Doris Barger Golf Tournament. Sal has served on the Lighting and Landscaping Special District for the homeowners of Greenhorn Creek Community; he served as the appointed Greenhorn Creek Advisor Board for the homeowners of Greenhorn Creek Community and later as the Board Chairperson. Prior to moving to Calaveras County Sal was a Member of the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Scotts Valley and a Member of the Scotts Valley Lions Club and later as the Club President.

Tim Oskey is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones Investments in Angels Camp. Tim is actively involved in the community serving in many volunteer capacities; as the acting President/Board Chair for Destination Angels Camp (DAC), Board Member and active Volunteer for Habitat For Humanity Calaveras County, Member and active Volunteer for Angels Camp Business Association, Member of Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce, Member and active Volunteer for the Calaveras County Friends of the Fair, Member of Greenhorn Creek Men’s Club, Member of Calaveras County Cattleman’s Association, Facilitator & Advisor on the MTHCD 401(k) plan. Tim resides in Angels Camp.

Larry Smith is a Murphys generational family resident, who has recently retired after forty five years as an Educator. Who served 30 years at Bret Harte High School as a teacher, coach, counselor, and member of the Administrative Team, and then went on to serve at Christian Family Learning Center, Angels Camp, a private Christian elementary school as the Principal/Superintendent. Larry has served on Foothill Community Church Board, CFLC school board, and was the past Murphys Community Club President.

In addition to the above three new community members, there are two local MTMC Medical Staff new board members who are joining the existing board and staff members: MTMC Chief Executive Officer and Hospital President – Doug Archer, Murphys District Nominee – Talibah Al-Rafiq, Valley Springs

MTMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pardeep Athwal, Radiologist who joined MTMC in 2017, and lives just outside of San Andreas. Dr. Athwal received his Doctor of Medicine at the St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the University Hospital of Brooklyn followed by his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He completed his Musculoskeletal fellowship at the University of Utah Medical Center.

MTMC Chief of Staff Dr. Shannon Linton, Anesthesiologist is board certified and has been an active member of the Medical Staff since 2007 and lives in Angels Camp. Dr. Linton obtained her Undergraduate at Sonoma State University and completed her Graduate work at the University of Washington, Seattle. Post Graduate work for both her Medical Doctorate and Anesthesiology Residency training were at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine. She is affiliated with Mark Twain Medical Center where she provides both anesthesiology services and interventional chronic pain procedures.
