San Andreas… Meet Lucia, a gorgeous torbie with an adorable dab of orange on the tip of her tail. She was a very shy and scared pregnant young adult when she was found. Two weeks later, Lucia gave birth to four kittens. A dedicated mom, Lucia took excellent care of her kittens and is now ready for a home of her own. Lucia is very sweet and gentle though still learning to trust people. She enjoys having her back gently stroked but remains a bit skittish when being held. Lucia likes to sniff your hand before you pet her and especially warms up to the person who gives her a Greenie, her favorite treat. She will require a calm household with adults and perhaps older children who are patient and understand the need to go s-l-o-w-l-y. We also believe with consistent, loving attention Lucia will gain confidence and this lovely girl will make a wonderful addition to her new home.
As with all cats available for adoption, Lucia is up-to-date on her routine vaccinations and has been micro-chipped. Already spayed, she is able to go home with you today.

Currently, the Calaveras shelter remains open for visitors wishing to adopt. We are, however, limiting viewing to one person at a time in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please understand there may be a wait for you to view the shelter animals, many of which still await their forever homes during this pandemic. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at http://animal.calaverasgov.us/Adoptions and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.
Volunteers are very much needed as well. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we would appreciate your help caring for shelter animals or in the office. No experience necessary; we will provide training and match you to your interests. Please call 754-6509 for more information.
Animal Services now has a Fee Flexibility Program!
When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
