Calaveras County Sheriff’s Narcotics Team Makes Arrest (Paloma, CA)

Paloma, CA… On November 6th, 2020, members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Unit, Calaveras Probation, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, and a K9 Agent from the Department of Justice conducted a search of Eric Sosa’s residence and discovered numerous violations of Sosa’s terms. These violations included possession of approximately 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine, approximately 2.7 grams of heroin packaged for sales, 4 methamphetamine pipes, evidence of drug sales, illegally obtained prescription opioid pills, opioid strips, butterfly knives and a switchblade, a knotted “slungshot” weapon, ammunition, mortar style fireworks, a .22 long rifle and a .410 shotgun.

In February of 2020, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Unit served a search warrant at the residence of Eric Sosa located in the 6000 block of Messinger Flat Road in Paloma. Sosa was subsequently arrested at the time on charges which included being in possession of weapons by a prohibited person, possession of controlled substances, and possession of stolen property. In October of 2020, Sosa was provided specific terms by the Superior Court while released on his original pending charges. These terms included obeying all laws and a provision allowing Law Enforcement to search his person, vehicle, and residence.

The firearms were discovered hidden in the rafters of the residence and a bag containing the heroin, methamphetamine, and opioid pills and strips was discovered hidden in a hole in the floor. The .22 long rifle was discovered to have been reported stolen out of San Joaquin County.

Eric Gabriel Sosa, age 42 of Paloma, was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for the following charges: 11378 H&S Possession of Controlled Substance for Sales, 11351 H&S Possession of Narcotics for Sales, 11370.1 H&S Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, 496 (A) PC Possession of Stolen Property, 29800 (a) PC Felon in Possession of a Firearm, 30305 (a) PC Felon in Possession of Ammunition, 12677 H&S Possession of Fireworks Without a Permit, and 11364 (c) Possession of Unlawful Paraphernalia.

Sosa is currently being held in custody pursuant to 1275.1 PC, which requires him to show that no part of his bail was obtained by felonious means.
