Amador County, CA… Scott Hunkins, President of the Amador County Teachers Association (ACTA), with the support of the classified unit led by Theresa Cramer, released the following statement on behalf of ACTA educators after hearing the Amador County Health Officer, Dr. Kerr, inform the Amador County Board of Supervisors that case rates are becoming more widespread. With this information, ACTA is requesting an emergency meeting with the Board and Amador County Unified School District (ACUSD) management to avoid a premature reopening date of Monday, November 16.

Premature Reopening Date Puts the Lives of Students, Educators, and Community in Danger

Scott Hunkins, President of the Amador County Teachers Association (ACTA), with the support of the classified unit led by Theresa Cramer, released the following statement on behalf of ACTA educators after hearing the Amador County Health Officer, Dr. Kerr, inform the Amador County Board of Supervisors that case rates are becoming more widespread. With this information, ACTA is requesting an emergency meeting with the Board and Amador County Unified School District (ACUSD) management to avoid a premature reopening date of Monday, November 16.

“Over the past two weeks, we have seen elevated case rates indicating widespread risk level for COVID-19 in our county. Until the county can bring the case risk down, we are not in a position to reopen. Opening prematurely without robust safety measures and testing not only endangers students, educators, and staff, but their families and the entire community. ACTA and ACUSD have been frantically working to provide safe conditions for students and employees, but we fear things will not be ready by Monday. This week’s added news raises additional concerns that we must address. As educators, we want to be back in the classroom with our students, but there is too much at risk to ignore science, facts and safety.”
