Verbal Altercation Between Two Males Turns into Threat with Deadly Weapon

Sonora, CA… On 1/18/2021 just before 1730 hours, SPD units were dispatched to the 100 block of Columbia Way for a report for a man with a gun. Dispatch had received a 911 call reporting two males involved in a verbal altercation and one of the men pulled a gun on the other. When officers arrived they contacted 24-year-old Charles Halliday Jr of Sonora and another subject outside the residence. The two subjects were involved in a verbal altercation when Halliday pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the subject’s face and threatened to shoot him. At which point the victim became angry and began chasing Halliday back towards his apartment. Halliday then pointed the firearm at the victim again, and the victim pushed him down. Halliday then made threats to shoot the victim’s son.

When Officers arrived on scene and contacted the two men, Halliday admitted to having a gun during the altercation, but denied making any threats to shoot anyone with it and told officers that he carries the gun for protection against bears. A loaded firearm was located inside the home, which the officer seized. Halliday was taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon using a firearm.
