Elsa is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week!

San Andreas, CA… Meet Elsa, a German Shepherd dog of between five and six years of age. Elsa is unusual in that she is AKC registered and surrendered by her owners. There are many reasons why German Shepherds rate among the top ranks of canine royalty but experts say their defining attribute is above all character: loyalty, courage, intelligence and a willingness to put their lives on the line in defense of loved ones. If you’re looking for a strong, brave dog to protect you and your home, Elsa might just be your girl. She will need a confident owner who understands the breed and can be her alpha since left on her own she has killed chickens and other smaller domestic animals. A good fence will be necessary, too, as Elsa has escaped others, especially when electric batteries were allowed to wear down. To her credit, Elsa’s previous owners reported she was good with their young children and lived compatibly with another dog.

Yes, we understand this is a difficult case in search of a very special person who can give Elsa the time and attention she deserves. Elsa will also require a cat-free home and a meet and greet should you already have a dog.

As with all dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter, Elsa is micro-chipped and up-to-date on her routine vaccinations. She will need to be spayed before following you home.

Come visit Elsa impound no. When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
