On October 14, 2015 at approximately 1:25 AM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department was on patrol in the 500 block of Stanislaus Ave when he observed two men standing near a vehicle in the parking lot of a closed professional center. As the officer approached the men and vehicle, the men turned away from the officer and ran in the opposite direction leaving the vehicle behind.

With the assistance of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department, officers from the Angels Camp Police Department searched the area and located one of the two men. The man was identified as the registered owner of the vehicle, 43 year old Angels Camp resident, Brian James. The other man was not located.

A subsequent search of James and the immediate area was conducted. Officers located 3.24 ounces of methamphetamine on the ground near the vehicle and observed a jar of marijuana in the center console of the vehicle. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle and officers located approximately 3 pounds of marijuana, glass smoking pipes, over 100 small plastic baggies, and a digital scale.

James was arrested and booked in to the Calaveras County Jail for the following charges:

11378 HS- Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sales
11377(a) HS- Possession of a Controlled Substance
135 PC- Destroying or Concealing Evidence
