Sonora, CA…On March 22, 2021 at approximately 3:50 pm, 20- year-old- Albert Roman III of Oakdale was driving his 2005 Mercedes sedan with his passengers 19-year-old Nathaniel Stetson of Ceres and a 16-year-old female from Oakdale, northbound on Chicken Ranch Road north of the Chicken Ranch Casino at a high rate of speed. At that same, 60-year-old Floyd Johnson Jr of Modesto was driving his 2001 Mercedes sedan with his passenger 69-year-old Richard Alvarez of Modesto, northbound on Chicken Ranch Road north of Chicken Ranch Casino just ahead of Mr. Roman’s vehicle. Due to Mr. Roman’s speed, he allowed his vehicle to travel up an embankment on the right side of the roadway and overturn onto the passenger side of Mr. Johnson’s vehicle. After the crash, all the occupants in Mr. Roman’s vehicle fled the scene on foot. Mr. Alverez sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and was treated at the scene.
CHP officers searched the area for the outstanding occupants and located Mr. Roman in a nearby property and detained him. The officer’s also located Mr. Stetson and the 16-year-old female near the scene. After further investigation, Mr. Roman was placed under arrest for felony hit and run and Mr. Stetson was placed under arrest for delaying the duties of a peace officer.
They both were transported to the Tuolumne County jail for booking. Upon entering the Tuolumne County Jail, Mr. Stetson was found to be concealing a clear baggy containing a white crystal substance, suspected to be Methamphetamine in one of his shoes. Mr. Stetson was charged with a felony for bringing a controlled substance into a jail. Mr. Roman was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail without any further incident. Alcohol or Drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.
