Jackson, CA…On March 28, 2021, at approximately 1738 hours, a motorcyclist was riding a 2002 American at a high rate of speed, eastbound on State Route 104 (SR-104) west of Zone Michigan Bar Rd. An on-duty CHP Officer was traveling westbound on SR-104 and observed the motorcyclist at a high rate of speed traveling towards him. The CHP Officer activated the patrol vehicle’s forward red lights and began to slow and pull to the north shoulder in preparation to conduct an enforcement stop.
The motorcyclist applied the motorcycle’s brakes and lost control. The motorcyclist traveled across the roadway in a northeasterly direction and crossed the westbound lane of SR-104. The CHP Officer brought the patrol vehicle to a stop completely on the north shoulder. The motorcyclist continued in a northeasterly direction, traveled onto the north shoulder and struck the right front of the CI-1P patrol vehicle. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision and the CHP Officer was not hurt.
This collision is under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs played a role. If anyone witnessed or has further information regarding this collision, they are asked to contact the Amador Area California Highway Patrol Office, at (209) 223-4890.
