Coulterville, CA…On April 26, 2021, at approximately 2:10 pm, 37-year-old Selina Granados of Merced, CA was riding her 2019 Honda motorcycle northbound on State Route 49, north of Schilling Road at approximately 30-35 miles per hour, approaching a right curve in the roadway. At that same time and location, 59-year-old John Canavan of Kool, CA was riding his 2018 BMW motorcycle southbound on State Route 49, north of Schilling Road at approximately 30-35 miles per hour, approaching a left curve in the roadway.

Ms. Granados allowed her motorcycle to travel over the double yellow line directly in front of Mr. Canavan’s motorcycle and as a result, the front of Ms. Granados’ motorcycle crashed into the front of Mr. Canavan’s motorcycle. After the crash, both riders were ejected from their respective motorcycles and landed on the roadway. Ms. Granados suffered major injuries and was flown to Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Canavan also suffered major injuries and was flown to Doctors Medical Center for treatment.

It was determined both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash and alcohol or drugs are not determined to be a factor.
