Chester is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week

San Andreas, CA…Meet Chester, a special needs heeler mix senior very much in need of a good human. Chester came to the shelter as a stray and after a vet visit, we found he had glaucoma. Medications helped for a short time but soon Chester would not leave his kennel and was in obvious pain. The compassionate decision was made to remove his eyes.

Chester has been in foster care with a wonderful couple, learning to navigate his way around their home and property. He is mostly quiet but will bark if someone is at the door. Neutral toward other dogs he meets, Chester will let them know if they too quickly invade his space. More recently – and as his surgery has healed – he has again become interested in going outside for short walks. Chester also enjoys car rides but mostly he is content to simply be by your side.

We feel this sweet boy’s best chance at happiness would be in a calm household with someone attuned to his comfort level, a special someone who could provide reassurance along with the patience for Chester to come to understand that he is loved. As a special needs dog with an older boy’s quirkiness, a home without young children, small dogs or cats would likely be best. Does this sound like your home? Could his special someone be you? Can you open your heart to a special needs companion to live out his remaining years in peace? And should you not be a candidate for Chester’s forever home, PLEASE SHARE this post so we can find the right one for him!

As with all dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter, Chester is micro-chipped and up-to-date on his routine vaccinations. Already neutered, the wait time for Chester to join you is minimal.
