Stanislaus National Forest Enacts Temporary Fire Restrictions in High Fire Hazard Areas

Sonora, CA…The Stanislaus National Forest will enact temporary fire restrictions in high hazard areas on May 22, effective through Dec. 31, 2021. To view the Forest Order and accompanying map please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/stanislaus/alerts-notices.

The Stanislaus National Forest currently meets the criteria for activating high fire hazard restrictions. These restrictions are believed to be the most immediate and effective method to reduce the potential for loss to life and property, and to protect the physical, biological, and cultural resources of the forest from fire. A temporary forest order has been issued prohibiting the following activities in the high hazard area:

Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, except in developed recreation sites.
Smoking, except within and enclosed vehicle or building, within a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame.

As a visitor to the Stanislaus National Forest, it is your responsibility to know the location of your activities and whether fire restrictions are in effect for that location.
