Sonora, CA…The Tuolumne Sheriff’s Dept has released additional details on the shooting yesterday. Yesterday morning, just before 8 am, our office received numerous reports of a person actively shooting at someone in a vehicle at the Cascade Mobile Home Park in Sonora. Deputies, along with the Sheriff’s SWAT Team who was training in the area, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies were pointed to 62-year-old James Christopher of Sonora standing on the front porch of a residence. Christopher complied with orders and was quickly handcuffed and secured in a patrol vehicle. Deputies contacted two victims at a vehicle parked near the residence and began rendering aid. The SWAT Team conducted a check of the area for additional suspects or victims, but none were located.
The preliminary investigation suggests Christopher and one of the victims were previously in a romantic relationship and lived together. The morning of the incident, the victim was accompanied by an acquaintance. The two arrived at the residence together in a vehicle. Upon arrival to the residence, Christopher was standing on the front porch of the residence with a pistol in his hand. Christopher opened fire on the vehicle and it’s two occupants. After many rounds had been fired, Christopher awaited law enforcement’s arrival and was compliant when given orders. The two victims sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Christopher was arrested and booked for attempted murder, felony domestic battery, and willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is thankful there were no serious injuries or deaths as a result of this incident.
