Arnold, CA…This morning it was an honor to cover the 40th Annual GABA Independence Day Parade. This is an event that almost didn’t happen at all do to Covid. With the state not officially opening until June 15th there was no way Caltrans could turn around a permit to have the normal parade on Hwy 4. So plan b was to have a parade on county roads. So this morning’s parade ran an abbreviated route from Independence Hall to White Pines Park. It was a fun, community centric parade and Supervisor Merita Callaway and others deserve a huge Thank You for carrying the water on this project. It was a great event and a community lift until next year when the GABA Parade will once again take it’s place on Hwy 4.
This year’s Grand Marshal was retired Arnold Postmaster Linda Baker. For years she was even more than that as she was postmaster for not only Arnold but Hathaway Pines, Avery, Arnold, Dorrington, Camp Connell & Bear Valley. It was her mission to keep the mail and packages flowing through rain, sleet, snow and all forms of inclement weather.
Linda Baker was infrastructure and kept the Hwy 4 corridor functioning. In her spare time she also was the GABA parade organizer. While retirement for her is well deserved she leaves a hole that is taking many, many people to fill.
I know I am speaking for many, many people in our area when I say Thank You Linda for all you have done to help keep our communities running throughout the years.
