Jackson, CA…Sad family notifications are underway for a fatal collision that happened early this morning on Hwy 49. On 10-07-2021, at approximately 0028 hours, a California Highway Patrol unit from the Amador area office was dispatched to a traffic collision that occurred on SR-49 south of Argonaut Lane. Upon CHP arrival, the officers observed a Black Nissan Versa down the dirt and grass embankment to the east of SR-49. The Nissan had major traffic collision damage to the front, rear and sides. Officers approached the Nissan and observed a white male slumped over the steering wheel and unconscious.

Paramedics on scene determined the male driver succumbed to his injuries as a result of the collision. Officers on scene determined the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

A preliminary investigation appears to show that the Nissan was traveling northbound on SR-49 south of Argonaut Lane when the driver allowed the Nissan to veer off the roadway. The Nissan traveled down the dirt and grass embankment, subsequently colliding with several trees. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

It is unknown at this time whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision. Any witnesses are requested to contact Amador CHP at (209) 223-4890.
