FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On 12/06/2015 at approximately 11:40 am, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department was dispatched to 155 South Main Street, Calaveras Lumber, for a report of a man stealing a chainsaw. The man was reported to have attempted to run over a Calaveras Lumber employee with his vehicle as he fled the scene.

Calaveras Lumber employees reported to the officer that a man entered the store and took the chainsaw valued at $1,200.00. An employee saw the man exit the store without paying for the saw and get in to his vehicle. The employee attempted to stop the man from leaving the parking lot by standing in front of his vehicle and telling him to stop. The man started the vehicle and began revving the engine. Fearing that the man was going to run him over, the employee jumped on the hood of the vehicle. The man drove approximately 30 feet then slammed on his brakes, which caused the employee to fall off of the hood. The man drove away from the store with the chainsaw still in his possession. The employee suffered moderate injuries and was treated on scene by medical personnel.

Calaveras Lumber employees obtained a vehicle description, direction of travel, and a partial license plate. The information was given to all law enforcement units in the area. A deputy from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle and the man on Dogtown Rd near Esmerelda Rd. The man was identified as 21 year old Valley Springs resident, Troy Premo. Premo was not in possession of the chainsaw when he was located.

Premo was arrested and booked in to the Calaveras County Jail for the following charges:
