Ione, CA…On 01/18/2022 at approximately 1745 hours, the driver of a 2005 Honda was traveling westbound on SR-104 west of Ione Michigan Bar Road at an unknown speed. A 2022 Ram towing a boat was traveling westbound on SR-I04 at approximately 50 MPH, ahead of the Honda. A 2013 Acura was traveling eastbound on SR-104 an unknown speed and was approaching the Ram from the opposite direction. The driver of the Honda crossed over double yellow lines in an attempt to overtake the Ram and boat directly in front of the Acura, and collided head-on with the Acura. The Honda then struck the Ram’s boat trailer. The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Acura was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital with major injuries.

Both lanes of SR-104 west of Michigan Bar Road were blocked for approximately two hours to facilitate the investigation, scene cleanup, and removal of the vehicles. It is unknown at this time if alcohol played a role in this collision, and toxicology results on the driver of the Honda are pending.
