Bear Valley, CA…The Bear Valley Snowsports Foundation (BVSEF) & Bear Valley Mountain (BVM) will welcome Daron Rahlves on December 19, 2015 for the NASTAR Regional Pacesetting Trials. The Trials will be in the morning, starting at 10am – pacesetters only – but spectators are welcome! By 12-noon we should be ready to open NASTAR to the public until 3pm. Daron will be available for pictures and autographs after the morning racing. Daron Rahlves is a former member of the US Ski Team, alpine racing on the World Cup circuit for 12 years (1994 – 2006), he has 12 World Cup victories and a world championship. Daron’s time on USST overlapped with Kyle Rasmussen’s time on the Team (1989-1998). Kyle is a local-boy & grandson of our ski area’s founder. We hope to see Kyle at BVM on Saturday and throw down a couple runs with his old team-mate.

The popular NASTAR recreational ski racing program allows skiers of all ages at any participating resort to compare their times to top Olympic stars through a handicapping structure. The national zero handicap is Ted Ligety. NASTAR and the U.S. Ski Team named a group of regional pacesetters who are taking their times from the National Pacesetting Trials in Copper Mountain out to regional resorts. At those regional trials, pacesetters from each of the 120 participating NASTAR resorts will have their handicaps established so they bring Ted Ligety’s par time back to their resorts. This season at Bear Valley we will have a few pacesetters rotating thru: Nick Shawkey, Patrick Caron, Stuart Homsy, Kevin Bernido, Mike Schimke, Kalin Kaiser & Katie Crawford

All season long, NASTAR racers at BVM have an opportunity to ski for platinum, gold, silver or bronze pins based on their own handicaps. Top performers in every age group will have an opportunity to also travel to Steamboat Springs, CO for the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships March 24-27.

This will be the 5th season that BVSEF has brought NASTAR racing back to Bear Valley Mountain. NASTAR will run most all Saturdays throughout the ski season. For updates or to learn more about BVSEF and what we do, see our TeamBV website: http://www.teambv.com
