Firefighters Make Great Work of Fire & Vegetation Fire near Thousands of Gallons of Propane, at Columbia College.

Columbia, CA…(From Tuolumne Fire Dept.)…Yesterday at about 4:35pm TCFD Station 79 Columbia College Firefighters became aware of a possible propane tank fire on campus. The crew came up on the air en route to the incident and requested additional assistance. A CAL FIRE Battalion Chief and engine and a CAL FIRE/TCFD engine from TCFD Station 76 were dispatched.

On arrival Station 79 firefighters discovered a 1,200 gallon propane vapor tank on fire threatening the 18,000 gallon LPG tank, and a vegetation fire less than 1/2 acre moving at a slow rate of spread.

Crews quickly deployed remote monitors to help keep the large tank cool and staff were able to shut the valve between the tanks to cut off supply.

On scene were B4416, E4485, E792, and Breathing Support 795. Also Campus security and facilities staff.

Firefighters contained the fires at 5:49pm. Please stay away from the area while crews continue to mop up and work with campus staff to determine a cause.
