Pinecrest, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) opened State Route 108 between Eagle Meadows and Kennedy Meadows at 2:00 p.m. yesterday. There is no estimated time when Route 108/Sonora Pass or Route 4/Ebbetts Pass will open for the spring season. Route 89/Monitor Pass opened for the spring season on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

Before opening the routes each spring, Caltrans crews not only clear the snow accumulated on the road over the winter, but also remove loose rocks, downed trees and complete necessary road repairs to ensure safe travel for motorists.

Motorists are advised to keep a safe distance between their vehicle and Caltrans equipment and only pass when the whole roadway ahead is visible. These and other driving tips, can be found at dot.ca.gov/cttravel/winter.html.
