Juvenile Arrested for June 21st Shooting

Sonora, CA…On Tuesday June 21st at around 1:30 in the afternoon, Deputies responded to the area of Nonies Road near Cherokee Road after receiving multiple 911 calls. One call reported a gunshot heard in the area with multiple people seen running from the scene. A second caller reported being flagged down to assist a man who was bleeding. Deputies responded to the area with their lights and sirens. When they arrived, they found a man in the roadway near a truck, with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man was taken by ambulance from the scene, and later transferred by air ambulance to another facility for advanced medical treatment.

Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. During the process, Detectives located a semi-automatic handgun near the crime scene. The handgun did not have a serial number or manufacturers information, which is commonly referred to as a “Ghost gun.” The Detectives interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage in the area, and processed the crime scene. Over the next month, Detectives conducted a thorough investigation that included additional interviews with witnesses, and the execution of numerous search warrants that generated additional evidence. Through their investigation, Detectives were able to determine a 17-year-old juvenile had confronted and shot the adult male after a dispute involving several people.

On Wednesday July 27th 2022, Detectives arrested the 17-year-old juvenile at the Mother Lode Regional Juvenile Detention Facility. The juvenile was booked at the Mother Lode Regional Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, possession of an unregistered firearm, and minor in possession of a handgun.
