Sonora, CA…On July 28th, 2022 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an investigation/arrest involving a Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff. Pursuant to department policy, the deputy was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations.
In order to maintain the integrity of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office will have no further comments on this case at this time. Any inquiries regarding the criminal investigation are referred to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office or the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office.

TUOLUMNE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND GUN CHARGES
On Tuesday, July 26th, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office received a Suspected Child Abuse Report (SCAR) alleging active drug abuse by a parent. Detectives began to investigate the allegation that 33-year-old Timothy Ball, who had a history of alcohol and opiate abuse, had recently relapsed. Investigators discovered that Ball had gone to rehab multiple times for addiction treatment. They also found physical evidence that Ball had recently relapsed on opiates while in the possession of firearms.
On Thursday, July 28th, detectives served a search warrant at Ball’s home in the area of Columbia Village Drive in Sonora and confiscated several firearms. The same day, investigators spoke with Ball at the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, where Ball is employed as a Deputy Sheriff, and found additional evidence of opiate addiction. Ball was arrested and booked at the Dambacher Detention Center (DDC) on the charge of being an addict in possession of a firearm.
